Hello,
I am a Newcastle-based musician offering clarinet and saxophone lessons from beginner to intermediate, and across a whole range of genres. As a performer I have played internationally and in a variety of styles, including jazz, pop, R&B, folk, musical theatre and free improvisation. I regularly perform, record, compose and collaborate across Newcastle.
In 2013-14 I studied Jazz Performance in Montreal, Canada, where I regularly performed on a weekly basis in and around the City, and for my final year of University I studied with Phil Bancroft in Edinburgh.
In July 2015 I graduated with a First Class Honours Degree in Music from Newcastle University, and I am currently looking to expand on pupil numbers!

Tutoring Experience

I am currently a woodwind teacher at the Northern Music Centre in Heaton, where I teach Clarinet, Saxophone and Music Theory up to Grade 5. I provided one on one lessons during my time in Canada and previously to this I volunteered a week of instrumental tuition in a Primary School, to provide young pupils with extra tuition before their first concert on a variety of instruments. Most recently I also led a Jazz Improvisation workshop with a Newcastle based choir.

Tutoring Approach

I have an enthusiastic, friendly and open minded approach to tutoring. I believe in balancing the technical approach with creative methods; tailoring a lesson approach that challenges, inspires and suits the individual. Most importantly I believe that the best progress happens while you're having fun with the music! As I am both classically and jazz trained there is a wide spectrum to draw from and room to try things out. I have a great deal of flexibility with hours and would welcome a discussion further about the tuition possibilities, so feel free to contact me.
