Home Tuition for English and Special Needs in Ammanford

I am a retired teacher, with 3 grown-up children who have University degrees and professions of their own now. Therefore, I have first-hand experience of our education system at all levels, and understand and appreciate that having sound educational encouragement and support can make all the difference to a child's future - every parent wants their children to achieve and experience a sense of personal success and achievement. As adults, we are only too aware that our educational level determines our life choices, and are proud when we know that we have done our best to provide them with educational credits that can never be taken away from them, once obtained.

Tutoring Experience

48+years teaching experience in Comprehensive Schools and Primary Schools, assessing and testing mainstream children according to National Curriculum criteria. Consequent writing of individual education plans, implementation of strategies and monitoring progress on an individual level so that the children work towards and achieve their full potential. I have worked with children of every ability - from very able pupils, stimulating them to greater success and fulfilment, to individuals experiencing problems with reading, basic literacy and Mathematics. I have also taught adults in evening classes for many years. I have worked also as a Home Tutor for a child who could not attend school for a period because of medical reasons. I have successfully tutored GCSE pupils who had failed to gain a "C" level, or whose current school assessments were below the "C" level, ensuring that they did achieved that grade or higher.

Tutoring Approach

Extensive long-term experience of helping children and individuals to progress and work to the best of their ability in a sensitive, creative and suitably challenging environment, according to each child’s level of speed and ability. I am extremely patient and supportive but totally committed to making full use of each session to make positive progress that the tutee can see and enjoy. I have worked as a SENCO (Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator) for many years and am fully cognisant of the established LEA system of providing extra academic provision when problems arise during a child's school career. A child's confidence and self-belief can be nurtured and cultivated- as each child grows in each, progress can often be fast and exciting for the child and tutor. Established, traditional classroom methods do not work for every child and can easily be customised to suit.
