Tutoring Experience

I have years of experience offering a range of services, including:

• GCSE tuition (all main boards)
• A-level tuition (all main boards)
• IB science tuition
• Homeschooling
• SEN teaching (including ADHD and ASD)
• Personal statements
• School entrance exams and academic scholarships (including common entrance, Eton, Westminster, Winchester Election)
• University entrance exams
• University interview training
• Oxbridge applications

Highlight experiences include:

• Helping over 20 students secure a place at Oxbridge.
• Teaching an International student the entire Physics IGCSE syllabus, leading to a high grade 9.
• Preparing a student for the prestigious Winchester Election, allowing him to secure a Scholarship (A section of the notes I prepared for him are provided below - other sections available on request).
• Lifting grades of student who disliked the sciences from grades 5/6 in year 10 mocks to all 9s in IGCSE science exams. Now guiding him with A levels in physics and maths.
• Assisting a student from abroad with his chemistry IA and IB HL revision. His ambition was to study Chemical Engineering at Imperial, and together we lifted his grade to the required grade 7 for acceptance.
• Forming fantastic relationships with students and their families.

For A-level students aiming for Oxbridge, I push them beyond the syllabus to start preparing early. I introduce more advanced and interesting scientific concepts; begin working through NSAA papers for the Natural Sciences; and advise on outside reading. What they learn can be included in their personal statement and prepare them for Oxbridge interview.

I have worked with lots of successful candidates for Natural Sciences at Cambridge and science subjects at Oxford.

For University students, I can help with undergraduate material in chemistry and biology. Common first-year undergraduate topics I have been asked to clarify in the past include MO theory, thermodynamics, reaction kinetics, and maths for science.

Tutoring Approach

• Flexibility is crucial: I tailor my approach to the needs and character of each individual.

• I am always generous with motivation and praise. Confidence is crucial and I take every available opportunity to boost it.

• I enjoy nothing more than instilling a feeling of belief and optimism, providing the student with a positive outlook. Lots of students come to see me as a trusted friend: here to support them in any way I can.

• For exams, the requirements of the exam board is paramount. I show students how to revise most efficiently and write their answers to score maximum marks.

• When exams are not the focus, lessons can be filled with absorbing discussion on all areas of science. This can promote communication skills, a passion for learning, and fundamental thinking.

• Homework is provided on request.

• I advise on general study skills and revision techniques to promote self-sufficiency outside of lessons.
