i am a recently retired teacher of Chemistry who retains an enthusiasm for education and a keen interest in Science.
I have taught Secondary Chemistry for 37 years at all the Scottish levels. At first this included Standard Grade, Higher and Sixth Year Studies Chemistry. As changes took place in the curriculum I presented the new SQA courses.
My main strength in teaching was my ability to explain difficult concepts and aid understanding.
I have also been tutoring in Chemistry successfully for a number of years mainly to contacts through friends and colleagues.
The approach is tailored to the needs of the student. With some students this involves making sure they have a grasp of the basics and developing their confidence. Then a more systematic approach to the course being undertaken to back up and consolidate their school work and to challenge them with the more difficult parts of the course.
Advice and help on exam technique and internally assessed parts of the course is essential to target a good exam grade. Also support is provided on aspects of the course being studied in school at that time.
