Maths Tutoring in Bristol

I am a Secondary Mathematics teacher with 10 years experience teaching. I currently work in an Independent school in Bristol where I teach year 5 to year 13 and I am an assessor for Persons Edexcel GCSE exam board.
I teach classes from Year 5 through to Year 13. This has included both low and high ability GCSE groups, of which I have a 100% pass rate; with all students achieving A*-C or new grades 9-5 grades. I am fully prepared and up to date with the new GCSE, having recently completed two training courses targeting these changes and helping to write the Scheme of Work for 2 schools.

I achieved my PGCE from the University of Bristol in Secondary Mathematics. I have a degree in Mathematical Studies and Economics and a Masters in Marketing.

Tutoring Experience

I am a Secondary Mathematics teacher with 9 years experience teaching in the UK. My specialism is Key Sage 4. and Key Stage 3 However for the last 6 years I have also been teaching year 6 and year 5 maths (as a specialist Maths teacher in my school). I have tutored for over 10 years with student ranging in age from 7 to 35. I also run a GCSE revision course in a prestigious Bristol school during the Easter Holidays.
This summer I have joined the Pearson's exam board a an assessor and marked the Edexcel IGCSE exam papers.

Tutoring Approach

For KS2 and KS3; My lessons are fun, interesting and relevant to ensure that students are engaged and enthused in their learning. I believe that this is a very effective way of teaching, ensuring that high levels of progress are made. I also like to relate the mathematics that I teach to ‘real life’, I have found that students are more motivated to learn when they can relate to the lesson content. Furthermore, mathematics is used every day by everyone, so bringing this in to the classroom develops transferable skills that can be used outside of school and in students’ future education and future careers.

For KS4: starting with a general test I am able to identify weaknesses and misconceptions that the student may have. Using these results I plan a structured, personalised timetable in order to eradicate these misconceptions and improves the students understanding. I have a wealth of resources including a range of exam papers from the new GCSE exam specification.
