Personal Description:

I am a music graduate of the University of Leeds now working as a freelance musician and tutor. I live in Leeds and am a piano and theory teacher, a choral conductor and accompanist and church organist and choir trainer.

Tutoring Experience:

I have taught the piano and music theory since 2010 and currently teach at the Yorkshire College of Music and Drama in addition to teaching privately in and around the city.

Tutoring Approach:

I cater for all age groups in my teaching, tailoring lessons to children as young as 6 years old or to retired adults. I also teach all levels of player, from absolute beginners who have not previously learned music or piano playing, to intermediate and advanced students.

Lessons with me are normally centered on learning classical piano, but popular music can be incorporated. As students become more proficient, a wider choice of music opens up to them and I will discuss individual preferences with each student in order to develop their particular interests.

I am familiar with the ABRSM and Trinity Guildhall examination syllabuses and students who wish to do so are able to study for piano exams, although these are by no means compulsory.

As a theory teacher, I teach up to ABRSM Grade 5 or equivalent. It is necessary to pass ABRSM Grade 5 theory before progressing to Grade 6 in an instrument and often the material for the theory exam is crammed in a rush between piano grades. I offer theory lessons that can run in tandem with piano lessons meaning that the material can be more thoroughly learned.
