Hello! My name is Liudmila. I am a pianist and professional teacher with 49 years of experience. I have worked at various times at a music schools and colleges in Russia and, for the last 30 years, in the UK. Among my students are those who lean piano as a hobby as well as professionals. I can teach following either the European of the British systems to prepare for the ABRSM exams. I work with students of various ages and believe that the love of music can overcome any difficulties of mastering the piano playing. I know from many years of experience that beginners need special help so in teaching children I actively involve their parents as I believe that such help enhances the study and also helps them to build a close emotional and spiritual connection with their children. Lessons are planned based on the individual requirements and abilities of each student and I teach them from the very beginning to play with both hands, to read notes and pick up melodies by ear. The course includes special exercises (including physical ones) to build up the sense of rhythm and various sound producing techniques. If needed, I can also teach the basics of music theory, harmony and solfège.

LiudmilaFrom William (5/5): Out six year old daughter began lessons a few weeks ago and she has had a very enthusiastic response to Liudmila’s patient style of teaching. She is particularly engaging and understands children’s different learning capabilities. Liudmila is an outstanding teacher and we would highly recommend her - even for students who may have had less than satisfactory results from other teachers.

From Martin (/5): As an older learner/beginner, I didn’t know quite what to expect when I turned up for my first lesson. Needn’t have worried. Clearly Liudmila is a hugely experienced and capable teacher. She very quickly built a rapport of trust and understanding with her friendly and encouraging style. This was a great relief. Felt as if I had the stabilisers put on my musical bicycle. The lesson was highly collaborative, with a healthy degree of challenge. Would happily recommend to anyone looking for a piano teacher. From Girish (/5): Liudmila is an excellent and gentle teacher who is clearly extremely skilled; she has a lot to give, to use my son's words. However, he didn’t feel that the style of the lessons was what he wanted going forward. After he passed grade VIII last year, he does not want to take any more piano exams but wants to broaden his musical style into jazz and pop, maybe with music production.
From Hien (/5): We did have lessons with Liudmila for 1.5 years but unfortunately we had to move far away from Surbiton area. It is really regret that we have no longer brilliant music lessons with her. Liudmila is a professional and knowledge teacher with a strong music passion. She has equipped my 8 year old daughter with a lot of amazing music skills/techniques that she has built over years of her own experience. My daughter's music performance has remarkably been coloured and touched lessons by lessons. In addition, her patience and sense of humour has entertained and motivated my daughter. Some of my friends are recommended having lessons with her and they are really happy with Liudmila's professional teaching style.

As a teenager, my piano teacher would make me feel really bad if I hadn't practiced in between sessions, so I really appreciate the fact that Liudmila does not pressure me in that way whenever I don't get a chance to practice at home.
I also like her flexibility with regards to scheduling the session - I often have to change the day/time at short notice.
Another great difference with my past experience of piano teachers: I get to play the piano for a whole hour! (as opposed to enduring 45 minutes of tedious theory followed by 15 minutes of playing)
We do cover some theory, but it's seamlessly - understand "painlessly" - blended with the practicing.
What I value most though, is the fact that I get to choose which pieces we study - best way to keep motivated - and, for the days when I haven't picked a piece, Liudmila always comes up with great well-known pieces to practice.
Definitely recommend.

From William (/5): I am an older person starting out on piano and I recently began lessons with Lucy. I am not going to pick up playing as quickly as a child and my movement and technique are not so fluid. However, right from the start Lucy's approach has been to work on me learning to play with a relaxed technique. And to get me playing smoothly and intuitively with both hands, The lessons are a lot of fun and in a few weeks we have covered a good variety of practice and technique, with just enough theory as needed.
I would wholeheartedly recommend Lucy to an older person thinking about giving the piano a go.

From Grace (/5): We are so glad that we've found Lucy. My son started to have a strong interest in piano a few months before he turned 4. Both my husband and I know little about piano and do not know how to teach him. We were turned down by a few teachers because of his tender age. We can see why, as he may be too young to learn to read notes, which in my mind is rather dry at this age. And his attention span is not there, the teaching method needs to be rather creative.
Lucy was doubtful about my son's age too. But after a free trial lesson, she's willing to give it a go. We are very impressed with her teaching style - it's exactly what we are looking for. She plays games with him, works on his listening, sense of rhythm by getting him to clap and sing out the rhythm. She puts in a lot of effort to tailor make the lessons to suit my son's needs. After a few lessons, my son is playing a few simple tunes, and one for one of them, he's trying to play it with both hands. Lucy is also trying to get him to play the tune in different key by using his ears. I think this is fantastic training at this age.
