Personal Description:
I am an experienced Classics teacher of Latin, Ancient Greek, and Classical Civilization, from KS3 up to A level, working both as a secondary school classroom teacher and as a one-to-one tutor. I have three grown-up children.
Teaching Experience:
I have many years of experience in teaching Latin (started teaching in secondary schools in 1997), Ancient Greek and Classical Civilization; I have to date tutored 200+ hours online in Latin and Classical Civilization, Entrance exams for Year 9 entry, GCSE exams and A Level exams, and have extensive knowledge and experience of OCR, Eduqas and IB exams and requirements and criteria. I graduated from Edinburgh University with a Bachelor and Master Degree in Classics, and I have two teaching qualifications (iPGCE and TEFL), QTS (Qualified Teacher Status) I speak five languages: English, Dutch, French, Italian and German. I am Head of Classics at a grammar school in Kent, which I enjoy very much, but I also enjoy tutoring students one-to-one, as it allows me to help students with any specific areas they would like help with, to support them in achieving their very best in the subject, to build a rapport with them and prepare them for their exams.
Teaching Approach:
In my initial conversation with the student I aim to identify the areas which the student believes he/she needs help with. We then set up a plan of action together for the lessons. I believe it is important to build a rapport with the student and for the student to be happy with the way I explain things and what I teach. I have a large supply of teaching material, including past papers, that are used in my tailor-made tutorials and share with my students.
