Information About Sophie - Markfield teacher

Personal Description:

I am an English teacher and tutor, with over 5 years' experience of teaching all ages and levels in England and Portugal. I am currently living in the UK, and teach English as a foreign language from home. I feel that although the recent pandemic has separated us in many ways, taking this time to improve your English has the potential to build bridges and connect you with the world.

Teaching Experience:

I have taught students from all over the world, of all ages and levels, including exam preparation for Cambridge exams (FCE, CAE, and PET), IELTS, Trinity exams and Language Cert. My experience with teaching business English includes teaching to European patent office executives, medical practitioners and lawyers, among many others. During my 4 years in Portugal, I taught at the British Council, as well as independent language schools, and state schools to young learners. I have also created and taught multiple summer school programmes, both for the British Council, and for one of the top ranked UK summer schools.

In addition to teaching English, I have coached my sport, ultimate frisbee, to many children and adults. I currently coach a team in the UK, following a stint as a coach for a Portuguese team. I have also coached Portuguese teenagers in schools, young children at festivals, local school teachers, and children with Type 1 diabetes in collaboration with a local charity.

Teaching Approach:

I believe in encouraging students to feel comfortable and confident when communicating in English. I feel it is important to meet a student where they are, and empower them to achieve their goals through a tailored, personalised programme. I take a creative and purposeful approach to my lessons, and cater to all learner styles to ensure that language and concepts are clear and understood.
