Information About Ruben - Merton teacher

Personal Description:

Olá! I'm a native speaker of European Portuguese, from Lisbon, living and working in London. I have a master's degree in Applied Linguistics, and I have been teaching Portuguese for over a decade now. I've had the pleasure of working with hundreds of students, both in Portugal and abroad. I also enjoy learning foreign languages, reading, travelling and discovering new cultures.

Teaching Experience:

My first teaching experience was with Slavik speakers in Lisbon. I've worked both with children and adults, delivering both 1:1 and group classes. I've also worked at the Center for the Assessment of Portuguese as a Foreign Language in Lisbon. I usually create my own teaching materials according to the student's learning objectives, but I always strike to aim at the four language skills, incorporating diverse methods and materials. I've been teaching evening Portuguese courses in London for over three years now, with extremely good results and feedback. At the moment, I am teaching online group courses via zoom.

Teaching Approach:

There are several reasons why one can engage on language learning. From school students who have to learn it at school, to businessmen who require it for other purposes. Whichever the aim, the most important factor to bear in mind is that languages are best learned through communication, thus I always create tasks wich engage students to practice freely in real-life communicative situations where they apply all the grammar we work during our lessons. I am a language learner myself and that has always helped me to understand exactly from where to start when teaching a student who has to start from the beginnings and how to move forwards towards an advanced level.
