Personal Description:

I am a French female citizen living on a permanent basis in Wiltshire with my British husband. I have moved to England in 1998 and am fully bilingual in French & English and I am a Chartered Linguist in Education & Translation, a full member of the Chartered Institute of Linguists in London.
I teach Monday to Friday between 10am and 5pm (except Fridays when I finish at 13.00). Please note that I am not available in the evenings after 5pm nor at weekends.

Teaching Experience:

I qualified with a Bachelor's Degree in English from Aix-en-Provence University in 1995 and became a fully qualified French & English teacher in 1998 after successfully passing the highly national competitive exam of "CAPES" in France, allowing me to teach both languages throughout the EEC in secondary schools. I have taught in several state-owned comprehensive schools in both France & England from GCSE's to A'Levels. I am also an experienced language teacher for business people, having worked for the Ministry of Defence and GKN Aerospace training some of their officers and engineers. I currently work as a private tutor, translator and as a general language moderator for the British Ministry of Defence, the Police, public services and as a freelance French assessor for the Foreign Office & Commonwealth through the Chartered Institute of Linguists in London.

Teaching Approach:

I can teach from a Beginner's level to Advanced, young teenagers (from 11 year-olds onwards) to adults in further education. I can teach on a one-to-one basis, or small groups, for exams revisions (GCSE's, A'Levels or University entry exams) or hold conversational classes to allow you to improve your fluency. I tend to mix grammatical knowledge with a communicative approach, using audio material to develop your listening skills and use of the target language most of the time to improve fluency, understanding, vocabulary and phonetics. I can conduct lessons by Skype using a web-camera if you're located at a distance making it difficult to meet in person. I give selected exercises to do as homework for you to carry on practicing from one lesson to another and can suggest books or materials to continue practicing depending on your level. I am very approachable, flexible, sociable, patient, a good listener and can explain things in a simple and logical way, enabling you to progress steadily at your own rythm, helping you gain confidence every step of the way.

From Liz (5/5): We enlisted Karine's help for about six months during **Telephone Number Removed** boost our daughter's confidence and progress with A level French (speaking/grammar/comprehension). Karine quickly established a great rapport with our daughter and her professionalism, flexibility and friendliness was fantastic. The weekly sessions were well planned and organised via Zoom which were convenient and worked very well indeed. We would have no hesitation in recommending Karine to other students, she was a great find through First Tutors. Our daughter talks fondly of her and is extremely appreciative of all the help and guidance she received from her.

I have had several weeks of lessons with her already, with the aim of reactivating my (degree-level but rusty) French ahead of forthcoming projects in French-speaking countries, and have been very much impressed by Karine's commitment, enthusiasm and skill as a tutor. She has made great efforts to get into the details of my specialist sphere, find relevant source materials (videos, articles, etc), and then plan lessons in which we are able to address my key needs effectively, and with humour. Karine is adept at inspiring confidence, essential when a learner is reactivating long disused language skills - and I can already see the positive results. Karine is clearly a talented and devoted language teacher - and I am very keen to continue to benefit from her assistance.

Stephen has been a very self-motivated student, exceptionally talented and interesting to talk to. He's been utterly charming, funny while being very down-to-earth, very aware of his vocabulary and prononciation needs and was excellent at targeting his own problem areas and at explaning clearly what he expected from the lessons.
