Personal Description:
I am a bilingual (Korean and English) tutor currently completing my BSc in Geography and Environmental Science with a specialisation in Spatial Data Science at King’s College London, where I am on track to graduate with First-Class Honours (expected 73%). I also hold a Bilingual International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma with strong academic results in English and Korean Language and Literature, and have experience supporting students in both English and Korean language learning.
Having lived and studied in South Korea, the United States, Myanmar, and the UK, I bring a culturally inclusive and multilingual approach to tutoring. I would now like to further develop my tutoring experience by teaching English and Korean to learners of all ages and backgrounds. I’m passionate about helping students build fluency and confidence through structured, engaging, and practical language instruction.
Teaching Experience:
From August 2019 to March 2020, I worked as a private tutor for an elementary school student transitioning into an international school. I taught English language skills—including reading, writing, grammar, and speaking—while also helping students adapt to learning in a second-language environment. This experience helped me develop the ability to break down complex language concepts into simple, accessible lessons.
As a native Korean speaker and fluent English speaker, I have supported peers and younger students informally in both languages, including helping non-native speakers improve their pronunciation, expand vocabulary, and better understand cultural nuances. My international academic and professional background has equipped me with strong communication and organisational skills that I apply to every lesson.
Teaching Approach:
My teaching approach is student-centred, structured, and culturally informed. I begin by assessing the learner’s goals, current level, and preferred learning style, then tailor lessons to fit their needs. For English, I focus on grammar, reading comprehension, writing, listening, and conversational fluency—using real-world contexts and interactive materials. For Korean, I adjust my approach based on whether the student is a complete beginner or a heritage speaker, covering essential skills such as Hangul reading/writing, sentence structure, vocabulary, and cultural expressions.
I emphasise clear communication, consistent feedback, and enjoyable, real-life applications of language. My goal is to help students not only improve their language abilities but also feel confident and motivated to use them in daily life, academics, or professional settings.
Whether you're working through a specific workbook, preparing for exams, or simply want focused conversation practice in Korean or English, I’m here to support you. I also offer guidance in essay writing and literary analysis for advanced and upper-intermediate learners.
