Personal Description:

My name is Heeyoung , a qualified Korean teacher. I have finished my master's degree in the UK and obtained a teaching certificate of Korean language as a second language. I enjoy teaching my language to students who are interested in Korea and discussing the differences in languages and cultures with students. I am approachable, friendly, and a good listener. I love K-drama and K-pop!! (I can recommend you some good dramas and songs) Furthermore, I have lived in Japan and can speak Japanese. If you are interested in both languages and cultures, we can talk about the difference between both languages too! Currently, I am staying in Jeju, a beautiful island in Korea. If you are planning to come to Jeju, we can meet up and have Korean lessons (I can show you some nice places in Jeju too)!

Teaching Experience:

I have been teaching students Korean language since 2009.
I have many years of experience in teaching Korean language to people from different countries and in various levels of their learning.

2009 - 2013 teaching exchage students who were going to study in Korea at Gifu University in Japan
2010 - 2011 teaching Korean culture and basic sentences to the disabled people at NICE NGO in Japan
2013 - 2014 teaching foreign families Korean language at the multi-cultural family support center in Korea
2015 - 2017 teaching university students Korean langauge and culture at Middlesex University in the UK
2016 - Current teaching students Korean language online on First tutors

Teaching Approach:

I will help you with your Korean skills in different ways. I focus on all the 4 aspects of language such as speaking, listening, writing, and reading skills. You will be able to read Hangul (Korean alphabets) and speak and write from simple sentences to complicated sentences. I will prepare some fun activities including role plays with various situations. Moreover, I can help you with your TOPIK test, which covers listening, vocabulary, reading and writing. I try to meet your level of learning and to use various materials to support our lessons. I also try to make our lesson fun and enjoyable so that you can enjoy learning Korean! Heeyoung is patient, encouraging and friendly and my daughter is really happy with the classes. Written material and homework provided is great and there is a sense of real progress already. All my dealings with Heeyoung to schedule classes and organise payment have been very easy and responsible. We would strongly recommend her as a teacher.

From Emma (5/5): I don't have much feedback to give other than that I found that lessons so helpful! I feel like it's well-tailored for the sort of Korean I want to learn and what I want to use it for (travel) and the lesson content is always very thorough and well explained to me.
Always super patient and always so polite and nice when correcting mistakes and I never feel uncomfortable when before I was self-conscious of my pronunciations.
These lessons have been such good help so far and I would recommend to anyone wanting to learn Korean!

Our lessons are always enjoyable and she is always enthusiastic which is incredibly motivational to me as a learner! She also provides a lot of insight into Korean culture and life which helps me to understand the reasoning behind different complexities within the Korean language.

The documents that she uses to teach with are highly detailed, easy to understand and filled with practical information, in the classes we relate her material to things that I am interested in learning as well which provides me with the useful, practical knowledge that I want. Her explanations are always concise, simple and easy to understand + when combined with her humour the lesson goes by way too quickly!

We often find ourselves going over the scheduled time because she always like to make sure that I understand and am happy with everything.

She is always available outside of the lessons for when I need to ask her anything, She is a brilliant, relaxed teacher and my words cannot do her justice.
