Personal Description:
As a native English speaker with ten years of teaching experience as well as the experience of studying Mandarin at the highest level, I am uniquely positioned to support you or your child’s English or Mandarin study through tailored in-person sessions and help you reach your study goals.
I am currently employed at the University of Manchester. My former employment in the UK’s creative sector, alongside a career as an exhibiting artist, have equipped me with the teaching skills and creativity essential for teaching.
Teaching Experience:
During the ten years that I spent living and working in China I gained a wealth of experience in delivering high-quality ESL classes and courses to learners of all ages, with a focus on interactivity.
Throughout my teaching career I have taught small training centre classes (5 years full-time) and large university classes (2 years full-time). More recently I have been tutoring Chinese nationals based in Manchester, UK.
Teaching Approach:
I believe that language learning becomes easiest and most efficient when the student is empowered to express themselves and their ideas.
The part of teaching I enjoy most is getting students to think for themselves, take risks and develop their knowledge of language and culture for practical applications.

Additionally, he has strong bilingual language ability in Chinese. When my daughter has difficulty in English, Dan can explain in Chinese. It is no doubt his 10 years of experience in China enabled him to be proficient in the Chinese language. My daughter is keen on Dan’s every tutoring class, because the class is very interesting and she can learn a lot.
Aside from his tutoring, he is also a good friend to us. We were moved by his help when we were suffering with Covid-19. He brought us some medicines and testing kits, and we couldn’t have recovered sooner without his help.
