Personal Description:
I qualified as a French and Spanish teacher in the UK and I have 10 years of teaching experience in the UK and abroad, in both schools and private tutoring. I have lived in France and Spain and also worked in French and Spanish business environments and so I have knowledge of the languages in the “real” world. I have a criminal records check for your peace of mind.
Teaching Experience:
I have taught in the UK and in Spain with experience teaching students from 3 to 75 years old. I have taught in secondary schools in the UK, a private school in Spain and private tutoring both face to face and online. I have extensive experience working with GCSE and A Level students of French and Spanish, helping some to achieve the highest grade, and others to build their confidence enough to achieve a pass when they were struggling. I am very familiar with the structure and syllabus for the exams and what is required to achieve each grade. I have also experience with adult learners working towards French DELF exams or Spanish DELE exams, as well as those learning for conversational, business or leisure purposes.
Teaching Approach:
I offer a wide range of resources for all ages and levels. I like to get to know my students and adapt the learning style and content of the lessons to their needs and interests. I offer friendly, fun and flexible lessons and can set homework if they wish. I incorporate a variety of skills into my lessons, including reading, writing, speaking, listening, grammar, vocabulary. Resources can vary from
PowerPoints to news articles to books to roleplays. I always chat with the student beforehand to find out what they would like to focus on and plan around their needs. I am positive and encouraging with my feedback and corrections, and like my students to feel a sense of achievement and capability and build confidence. Please see my reviews below :)

ClaireFrom Caroline (5/5): Claire has just starting tutoring my son in his GCSE year for Spanish. I am extremely happy with the lessons and so is he (despite him being a bit against the concept of tutoring in the first instance). The lesson are well paced, with excellent explanations, active engagement, tips for exam questions etc. I highly recommend Claire as a tutor.

Each lesson is tailored to what I want to work on, which she asks me on a weekly basis in order to help guide our lessons as to how I would most prefer them. She spends time preparing for the class, which is evident in the broad range of worksheets and exercises developed to help practice everyday conversation and grammar. She is lovely to speak to, and this makes the classes go so quick! I have learned so much and my confidence in speaking Spanish has grown enormously, all thanks to Claire.

From setting up the online lessons from the start of the journey has been flawless. My 8 year old daughter finds the classes very interactive and comfortable as she was a little shy at starting lessons this way, but Claire friendly and professional approach as put her at ease and we look forward to many more lessons with Claire as my daughter is learning as well as enjoying them. I would recommend Claire to anyone with young children starting there journey of learning Spanish.

Claire is friendly and patient and always prepared with relevant materials. My daughter has been finding the lessons very useful and they have really built her confidence in speaking.

From Alastair (/5): I'm trying to turn a reasonable amount of basic French vocabulary into something more coherent and be able to converse with locals when travelling to France. Sessions with Claire have been incredibly helpful in building confidence and knowledge of the language. They are informative but relaxed and I'd certainly recommend Claire to others.

This was mainly with the Speaking and Writing parts of the exam. She was patient and engaging and has helped my son achieve a Grade 9! From Amber (/5): I started studying Spanish with Claire in January. She's an excellent teacher. She's so knowledgeable about the language: she can answer any obscure question about grammar I throw at her, but more importantly she knows how Spanish is actually spoken in real life e.g. the differences between how it's spoken in Spain vs Latin America, or how people commonly phrase things (as opposed to the formal phrases you usually learn in books). She's also really encouraging (I'm shy at speaking) and patient when I ask her the same questions over and over again! She's such a good teacher that I started doing French with her as well and have recommended her to lots of friends. Thanks Claire :)

when we were talking on First Tutors before details exchanged, I explained that Mondays at 11am could not be guaranteed and may sometimes have to change due to me having to go in to work on Monday mornings and you said that was fine.
I have lots of very good reviews from very happy students and I’m an excellent teacher. I think you are quite demanding and I am a relaxed, friendly, flexible tutor who respects my students and has a great relationship with them and lots of communication. These are the kind students I love to work with - it is a joy.

Very professional and patient and not at all patronising if you forget things or get things wrong. (Which I often do) she always goes out her way to make you feel comfortable and work at a pace that suits you. Claire always makes lessons fun by bringing in a mixture or reading, writing and role play. I’m really enjoying my lessons and look forward to each one and hopefully someday I’ll be as fluent in Spanish as she is. ☺️
