Personal Description:
こんにちは、I am a native Japanese speaker and I've been living in the UK for over 10 years.
As a teacher I like to encourage students to enjoy the language they're learning and be interested in the country/culture, and also most importantly to get you speaking and reading and understanding Japanese as soon as possible.
Whether you learn Japanese for fun or travelling purpose, please feel free to contact me :)
Teaching Experience:
I started teaching Japanese in 2015 and have taught various level of students. I always try to focus on what students want or need and try to create extra exercises or go through extra practices during the lesson.
Apart from usual lessons through a textbook, I have also helped with university assignment, prepare presentation or translation for advanced level students and prepare basic Japanese communication skills for travelling specifically.
I have also taught English for 3 years to primary and secondary school students in Japan according to the national curriculum. And 1 year teaching English to Japanese nursery school children using home made games, cards and songs.
Teaching Approach:
I offer a free trial lesson to make sure we both are happy with the arrangement before we start paid lessons.
Lesson structure would vary for each level. I'd like to focus on the request of learners adapting teaching style for every student's needs, anime/manga interpretation, or translation, or just day-to-day conversation practice in modern Tokyo.
I use Discord video call for lessons and most of lesson materials are online/digitised. I also invite all students to join a communal Discord server I created. Joining the server is not compulsory and however students can communicate or practise Japanese with each other freely on one of the channels.

From Jayd (/5): Ai-sensei was a brilliant and patient tutor :) She used a broad range of exercises throughout our sessions and they were all very engaging - the materials for the class were dynamic and varied and very well organised, and gave me confidence in my broadening knowledge and handle of the language. I had studied a bit of Japanese in the past, and Ai-sensei very quickly calibrated to my level and we made very useful progress from there. Would highly recommend her!

From Lauren (/5): Ai is a fantastic tutor! She is very kind, patient, and caters each lesson to your current level. When I began I was unable to speak any Japanese; however, a few lessons in and I am already forming sentences! I have never once felt pressured when making a mistake and always feel encouraged afterwards. Ai also provides plenty of material to use for practice in between lessons, which has helped greatly. I would absolutely recommend choosing Ai as your tutor if you are interested in learning Japanese!

From Lee (/5): Ai is an excellent teacher, her lessons are always perfectly paced for me and gives you the time you need if you are struggling with something and is excellent with her explanations. i went into my first lesson knowing basically no japanese and after only a few lessons i was able to form sentences and answer questions in full and proper japanese. Highly recommend Ai to anyone who wants to learn japanese, even if you are a complete beginner!!

Ai is a wonderful teacher; she is patient and thoughtful, and does a great job at pacing lessons so that they are just the right level of challenge. She makes use of various different learning resources which have been extremely helpful, and the homework is perfect for consolidating each session's learning topics. The lessons help students make consistent progress in every aspect of language learning (writing, typing, reading, speaking, vocabulary acquisition, kanji practice, etc.) and Ai is brilliant at helping students put everything together.
I've studied Japanese on and off on my own for a time using different self-study resources, but I find these lessons are helping me progress much faster than I ever could on my own. They have also immensely helped my confidence with speaking. I also really appreciate how Ai often shares insights into Japanese that one wouldn't get from a textbook (like, for example the subtle nuances of two different 'correct' ways of saying something).
Because of Ai's thoughtful, flexible approach to teaching, I imagine she would be a fantastic teacher no matter what one's motivation for learning Japanese or level of experience. I recommend her whole-heartedly and plan to continue studying with her indefinitely.

She makes all lessons extremely fun and does regular recognition checks to help with remembering all the hiragana and katakana. I never thought that I'd pick up a language so quickly really. Even tho I've only had a couple of lessons, I love every one a lot, and I'm glad to have such an amazing tutor. From Arpan (/5): Ai has been really helpful with learning Japanese. We go through topics e.g. verb conjugation, where she thoroughly explains how it works. Afterwards, we would practice using the techniques learnt by having short conversations. By doing this, not only do I learn how sentences work, I get first hand experience by using them in short conversations, which has really helped in not only retain the techniques but also improved my confidence with speaking in Japanese.
Ai also sets out regular homework on the content learnt and uses bits learnt from other previous lessons to further cement my understanding.
So far, I am enjoying studying Japanese under Ai's guidance and look forward to continue improving!

From Lydia (/5): Ai's Japanese lessons have been exactly what I needed to revise and further progress in Japanese. She has tailored each lesson so far to match my needs. In most lessons we cover Kanji, Reading, vocabulary, speaking and writing. She makes an effort to conduct most of the lesson in Japanese which has really helped my listening skills. I also do my best to reply in Japanese and when I make a mistake Ai will correct me on the spot which I find really helpful, since it allows me to recognise the mistakes I am making.

At first I did think an hour lesson might be too much but the time flies by now. It had been a year since I moved back to the UK from living in Japan for two years so I was very nervous about my rusty Japanese. But right from the first lesson, she immediately put me at ease. She had also immediately identified what I needed and wanted from the lessons, which was to be more conversation/grammar-driven and has tailored each lesson for that. She even accommodates when I just want to waffle on and reminisce with her about Japan XD Ai-san is a super friendly person and I would highly recommend her to anyone!

From Max (/5): I've thoroughly enjoyed studying Japanese under Ai's guidance. She has been understanding of the fact that Japanese unfortunately has to come second to studying for my A-Level exams and so was willing to host lessons on a bi-weekly bias with a fairly flexible schedule. She introduced some (much needed) structure to my learning of the language when I came to something of a dead-end after 6-months or so of self-study. Though they are admittedly still rather awful,working with Ai has given me the opportunity to slowly improve my listening and speaking skills, and also prompted me to stop focusing exclusively on reading and writing as I had done previously.
Ai is a kind and patient person. Though I generally hate video calling, I have now become fairly comfortable doing so with her.

I hadn't spoken Japanese properly for almost a decade when I started my lessons, and although I'm quite Skype-shy, Ai-sensei immediately put me at ease. We get through so much in every class hour, and after a couple of months of lessons, my confidence has improved a great deal. Lessons are well balanced between speaking/listening, reading, and writing practice, and she is endlessly patient and kind. My only regret is not starting sooner!

She has helped me with learning the different sentences and how to pronounce certain words in a specific sentence, giving me tasks to accomplish outside the lessons to improve myself. I started lessons with practically no prior learning and Ai-Sensei took me through my first steps in an easy to understand and logical manner; starting with the hiragana and basic vocabulary.

From Tom (/5): I don't feel like I have a lot to say, its all been good so far. The lessons feel well paced and the way the learning is set out feels good, there is plenty of time to consolidate what you are going over between the exercises in lesson and the homework. Doing some reading practice at the end of each lesson has been helpful and is a good way to give an idea of progress as well as moving the learning away from just the textbooks.

I am half Japanese and was able to speak/write a little already and was not sure how easily a teacher would be able to accommodate my individual capability and help me to improve. I need not have worried! Ai very quickly tuned into my specific requirements and has helped me to formalise grammatical knowledge, develop new vocabulary and keep learning kanji. I find my lessons both interesting and good fun; I would thoroughly recommend Ai as a Japanese tutor.

From Teo (/5): As a complete beginner I started learning Japanese with Ai last October, and since then through her teaching and guidance I have been pleasantly surprised by how quickly my Japanese ability has progressed in such a short space of time. Every lesson with Ai is structured and in-depth; she can always confidently answer any general or grammatical questions I may have which is extremely helpful; you can truly tell she is passionate about her teaching. I attend university weekly but Ai is always flexible so I am able to fit in lessons once a week, always setting some kind of homework so I can learn during my free time too. On top of that, Ai is a friendly, patient and kind person who puts time into making sure your learning experience is as good as it possibly can be. I always look forward to our weekly lesson and can't wait to carry on learning Japanese with Ai in the future.:)

From Greg (/5): I have been taught by Ai now for about three months, and I believe that she is a great Japanese tutor. After completing a few years of Japanese classes as a side-project at university, I contacted Ai in hope of continuing my study of Japanese, and I'm very glad that I did. Ai provides a great balance of reading, writing and speaking practice, and also puts in lots of time and effort in to her students by producing personalised lesson plans, vocabulary/ grammar documents and even goes out of her way to find articles on a topic that the student requests, as part of the reading practice.
Being both a PhD student and part-time teacher at my university, I was concerned that studying a language would be challenging given my busy life and other commitments. However, I have since found that this is no problem as Ai works hard to set an appropriate amount of tasks to allow me to balance my PhD and study of Japanese. From Lewis (/5): I have been learning Japanese for just over a month now with Ai as my tutor and have already learnt much more in that time than I could have imagined possible! With her guidance I can now read/write both hiragana and katakana as well as gaining an understanding of basic grammar which I would have envisaged taking much longer before enlisting her tutelage. Ai is a brilliant tutor who is not only thoroughly proficient in her own native language of Japanese but also has an excellent grasp of the English language thus meaning it is very easy to understand her explanations of the Japanese language. She is very flexible with her schedule and very generous in the time she devotes to her lessons, always striving to get the most out of each one. She is also fantastic at providing her students with the resources they need to study, before I purchased my Genki textbooks (which was not necessary as she provides her students with the entirety of the textbook online!) she would provide me with the relevant pages before each lesson so that I could prepare and assimilate the lessons. I would definitely recommend Ai to anyone studying/looking to study Japanese, I am enjoying our lessons and am looking forward to improving even further under her tutelage in future!

From Aaron (/5): I've only had a few lessons with Ai, but I am enjoying them very much. She is a very friendly teacher and has a good method of teaching.
In my first lesson, I already learned how to introduce myself and basic greetings/goodbyes (after a little home study from myself as well).
I highly recommend her for learning Japanese and I am also looking forward to my future lessons.

I am very impressed at how well he is doing and that is thanks to Ai. I used to teach English in Japan and Ai teaching is much better than mine. Thanks again Ai.

Her style of teaching Japanese is Excellent in the space of 2.5 months, I can confidently read and write Hiragana and Katakana. I also can read and write a small amount of Kanji too. Now we are just getting to grip with Numbers and telling the time.
Ai is Funny, Easy going and Patient. She is very passionate about teaching and her students, There have even been times when she has changed her work pattern to fit around my lessons.
So my Advice is simple, if you want to learn Japanese language from an excellent teacher call Ai you will not regret it.
