Personal Description:
Hello. I am a native Korean speaker and hold a Masters Degree in Management Science from London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE).
I have been teaching Koreans for many years and for those who are just interested in Korean culture/ K-pop, or basic communication, or one-off speech preparation, or even living and working in Korea!
I have real passion for teaching Korean language and culture, so I'd like to make sure my students to learn and make progress as well as to have fun for both of us.

Teaching Experience:
I have been teaching Korean language for several years for learners with various levels, background and age groups. Hence, my lessons are tailored based on learner's motivation and objectives for learning Korean.
Teaching Approach:
Learning a foreign language can be quite challenging. Especially, Korean alphabet is completely different from English. But once you know some basics, you will be surprised that how simple the language is and to find yourself reading Korean!
My lesson style varies depending on learners' age, language background and the purpose of learning. I will examine what learners' expectations are and the level of understanding, then tailor the lessons. Learning alphabet is crucial although it takes time, but I promise you that once you can read the alphabet, it will speed up the learning and the rest will follow a lot easier.

AhraFrom Jack (5/5): I have been having weekly lessons for 1 hour with Ahra since September 2020, she is very punctual and have had no issues whatsoever. She is a thorough teacher who takes times to make sure all topics of the lesson are well understood. She uses textbooks of varying difficulty to aid the lessons, following a methodical lesson structure to build up knowledge. I would highly recommend her for someone of any skill level

From Min (/5): Ahra is an excellent teacher and my daughter (who is 14) absolutely loves the lessons. She finds Ahra incredibly clear, balancing giving new information well, without being too much to take in too quickly. The work sheets she sends are very useful and Ahra has a clear plan of what she wants to cover each lesson and what should be done to practice between lessons.The zoom lessons work really well. My daughter has learnt a great deal in a short time and is really keen to continue with her lessons. She started as a total beginner and finds Ahra wonderfully patient and encouraging. After her first term, she made a 5 minute presentation to her classs at school speaking entirely in Korean!

She is very friendly and has made me feel a lot more comfortable when speaking Korean. I feel like I’m improving and gaining More confidence each lesson. Overall I highly recommend her.

From Nicola (/5): My daughter has been studying with Ahra for about 5 weeks and I am so pleased! We have an online lesson once a week. Before the first lesson she had a phone call with my daughter to introduce herself which I thought was a good idea. Ahra is always punctual, calling at the exact time of the lesson and she is very polite. She has suggested a book to compliment the lesson but also sends lots of lesson content via email to keep my daughter busy through the week practising. Happy to have a quick chat but then fast to move onto work, Ahra is very kind and patient. My daughter is picking up the basics very quickly and she enjoys her lessons a lot. She starts with the very basics and builds slowly which is what you need when teaching a 10 year old language. Making sure that she has a good solid understanding before she moves on. I am very happy to have found Ahra.

Ahra has taught me very well and has been helpful and if there was something I didn't understand, She would teach me it well and in more detail and I would recommend her to anyone who is thinking about learning Korean as Ahra is a very good teacher.

From Ludovic (/5): Ahra provides a good balance between an informal teaching environment (being very patient with my own trials with the language and being accepting of looking at materials outside the curriculum) and providing a structured lesson (she follows a book with a clear structure which you can buy). It makes it easy to prepare for a lesson and track your progress while making the lesson flexible and fun if you are enthusiastic about learning. She is also very punctual while having a flexible schedule. She is trusting with payment schedule.

From Annabelle (/5): I may have only had a few lessons with Ahra, but so far I have found that she is an amazing teacher! I feel like I am really progressing well and increasing my understanding of Korean despite my short time studying the language. She uses a very comprehensive teaching style and is very patient with me. She sends me the relevant lesson sheets before each lesson which allows me to learn and practice beforehand, which makes it much easier to ask questions and attain a greater understanding of the structure and grammar of the language! It also helps that she has a very comprehensive understanding of how the Korean language is constructed! 고맙습니다 아라!!

I have had 4 lessons and I feel very relaxed now and feeling a bit more confident when speaking out loud in Korean which before I was not confident enough to do. My reading and pronunciation are getting much better also. I would highly recommend Ahra as a teacher.

Ahra was fantastic. Really patient, clear and consice. She went above and beyond, reading my speech before hand, offering suggestions and sayings, even introduced quirky little finger sayings which all helped make the speech an absolute success. There is no way I could have done it without her. I would have no problem in the slightest recommending Ahra and, if I ever make it back go Korea, I will definitely be asking her to help me again. Ahra gives great encouragement and thorough teaching methods to make sure I always understand everything before moving on from a topic. She modifies each lesson to suit my korean level and includes certain areas where I need more practice.
