Personal Description:
As a published, award winning author I appreciate and understand English language and literature to an unusually high degree. I am a voracious reader of English literature, philosophy, politics, biographies and war history. I enjoy the opportunity to share my enthusiasm and develop ideas around these subjects with friends, students and colleagues or in public at panel discussions, festivals or in the media. I also love music and regularly attend gigs and concerts, sometimes reviewing them for music and culture media. I have published 5 works of literary fiction in the last 12 years and am the founder, commissioning editor and publisher of Zero Books.
Teaching Experience:
My first teaching experience was teaching psychology to undergraduates at Surrey University. Since then I have taught gifted teenagers and those who have experienced problems with conventional education through to mature students looking to explore their chosen subject more intensely and to discuss and debate certain topics. I have also mentored students at respected creative writing establishments.
Teaching Approach:
I am an informal 36 year old who will engage with students so that I can quickly learn their strengths and weaknesses, motivations and stimulus. I encourage students to write idiosyncratic and original work that is technically correct and well crafted. I also believe that any good writer should read and respect other work so I encourage all students to read and learn from past and contemporary masters.
