Information About Samantha - Hoddesdon teacher

Personal Description:

I'm a bubbly, friendly creative lady who loves bringing out the creative side of people who want to learn to do something different. I previously worked for MIND with people who have mental health difficulties and have seen first hand how a creative pursuit can be massively rewarding and improve well-being. I'm not going to boss you about or flaunt my experience or qualifications - I'm level headed and approachable and want you to have a good time while you learn to do something you are going to love.

I've had an up and down life so I especially welcome people who want to learn to 'off load' while they are learning, being creative is amazing therapy - though please let me know if you are allergic to cats as my girls will have to be banished to the bedroom!

Teaching Experience:

I've been teaching privately for two years - a few learners from afar, but mostly neighbours and their friends. With crafting, it's mostly working out what you need to get started and a set of basic principles about what's available and how to use it for a good effect - from there it's really easy to get going on your own. With creative writing it's more about finding ways to prompt those hidden ideas and drawing them out in the open - I've been 'creating' my whole life - even from Secondary school I was getting awards for arts and writing and achieved an A in my Art GSCE - a B in Textiles and English (I lost points for writing too much! Can you believe it!?) after which I've taken loads of different short courses in creative writing, crafting, counselling, art and textiles to ply my trade.

Teaching Approach:

I like a friendly, homely approach as if you were in your own home or with someone you know well - feeling comfortable is a priority as is being relaxed and enjoying the atmosphere. I'm open to all ideas, and if a learner wants to do something specific then I am willing to take on requests. All of your materials are supplied so you only have to bring yourself. I like to remind people that you can accomplish anything, sometimes you just need some directions. It's all bout feeling proud of yourself with me - I want you to feel like you've achieved something, however small and I will ply you with tea and an open ear all the while you're learning with me.
