Personal Description:
I am a twenty-six year old Lancashire lad living and working in the Leeds area. I studied Creative Writing at Manchester Metropolitan University and received a First Class Honors BA degree so Creative Writing and English Language are my fortes.
I work as a Support Worker for Adults with Learning Difficulties and I am planning on returning to University in Leeds to hopefully do my Masters next year but my life goal is to become a Creative Writing teacher/professor at University level. I am currently working on my first two novels and I am an avid reader, my collection of books is almost a library's worth by now, and I firmly believe to be able to write you need to read, read, read everything and anything you can get your hands on.
One of my favourite past times is going to the Theatre, especially with my father, we have seen many different genres of plays together and next to libraries and book shops, the Theatre is my favourite place to be.
I have always enjoyed learning and my passion for Creative Writing and Drama/Theatre Studies know no bounds.
Teaching Experience:
While doing my degree at University, students were regularly given the reigns during workshops, supporting each other not only to critique and edit our work but to take a step back and see it through the eyes of others to gain perspective.
I am also a member of a few online communities where writers can share their work and ideas and get feedback. They have given me the opportunity to understand what is helpful and useful when critiquing as well as how to always ensure that the person goes away with some positive feedback, which is vital in boosting their confidence and enthusiasm.
Teaching Approach:
My approach to learning is person-centred, meaning that I adapt my style of tutoring to each person's needs and their way of learning as every student is different. But most of all, learning should be something that you want to do and enjoy doing so I strive to make the experience interesting and fun as well as educational.
Creative Writing is about exploring not only yourself, but the way you see the world we live in. It's about writing your truth and using your words to connect to people all around the world. It's about allowing your readers to get to know you and see things in a different way than they usually do.
Drama/Theatre Studies is not all about rehearsing and following every stage direction and action faithfully, it is about bringing something new to the piece, bringing a fresh perspective and a new way of telling the story to the audience while still staying faithful to the characters.
