Personal Description:
I am currently conducting online chess lessons only.
I am a Doctor of Psychology and have been conducting studies about the cognitive abilities of young chess players. I have 30 years of experience playing chess. I am a chess candidate master of Latvia, having an international (FIDE) rating of 2067 and an ECF rating of 2117, which is a good level. I graduated from Riga Chess School (which I attended from 1993 to 2009) and hold a professional education degree in Chess. I have participated in one European Youth Chess Championship and four World Youth Chess Championships representing my country as a teenager. Later, I kept participating in team tournaments of the A League of Latvia. I had a few years break from chess when I was writing my Doctoral thesis. Now I am living in London and back to chess, I play for Crystal Palace & Croydon Chess Club and Lewisham Chess Club. My greatest recent achievement is winning London Classic Women and Girls Rapidplay 2019. I am also organising tournaments for my young chess students.
Teaching Experience:
I have around 7 years of experience teaching chess to primary school children and tutoring adults back in Latvia, and I enjoyed it very much. Some of my students participated in chess tournaments and improved their chess level. Some just played for fun and chess brought them much joy and positive emotions. Since October 2016 I have started private 1-1 chess tutoring of children and adults in London, and so far then I have been teaching 200+ kids.
Teaching Approach:
I am friendly, supportive, and encouraging. I try to understand the individual characteristics, needs, and interests of a student and be flexible whilst teaching. I make sure that the student feels comfortable and enjoys the lessons. I can teach moves, tactics, and strategies for beginners and help to improve the chess technique of more advanced players, suggesting theories and ideas.
