Information About John - Stourport-on-Severn teacher

Personal Description:

I am currently studying Creative Writing at the University of Gloucestershire where I have found a real passion for script writing. Recently I wrote two plays for a local youth theatre group where we premiered them over two nights in a studio theatre. Both nights were full and very successful. Since then I have been approached by a Gloucestershire based radio company to adapt one of them for radio which is very exciting.

I have a merit level qualification in acting, singing and contemporary dance foundation course which I took part in prior to university whilst pursuing acting roles in and around the midlands. Since then I have been focusing on teaching whilst working as a part time 'scare actor' in horror events.

I am young, energetic and very enthusiastic with everything I do. I love teaching and have has the best experiences with my classes since first tutoring 5 years ago.

Teaching Experience:

I have a 100% Merit and Distinction LAMDA exam rate with a current 71% Distinction rate.

I have been teaching for 5 years in Worcestershire and Gloucestershire. I currently teach at Studio B performing arts centre but have taught at Swan Youth Theatre, Academy Dance, Theatre Stars Cheltenham and Round Midnight Birmingham in the past.

I have experience teaching at Junior, Intermediate and Senior level and I also teach LAMDA exams. This is both at class levels and private tutoring with 1 or small groups.

Teaching Approach:

I find it very easy to engage with students which I believe is due to being such a young individual myself. I started teaching when I was only 18 which involved covering small classes and watching lessons etc and since then haven't let anything stop me from advancing to where I am now. I am very confident in my abilities as a teacher and don't let the fact I am only 22 stop me from challenging myself and students every day. I am incredibly friendly and love having a laugh with students, I don’t see the need for shouting all the time or unnecessary stress. However I am extremely ambitious for both myself and my students and will push them to achieve what I know they can.

I read contemporay plays as well as audition for roles as an actor myself. I also have plenty of friends involved in acting and also theatre in general which I feel gives me a great idea of current plays and themes. I don't like to focus on classics or more known pieces as some tutors do and instead like to look at plays that students may not normally come acorss from writers they will grow to love as I have.
