I am an award winning scriptwriter for stage and screen, fully qualified teacher, with a Masters degree in scriptwriting and a BA degree in Journalism. I have had plays produced in several parts of the UK over the past years, including being one of the winners of the Windsor Award for New Writing (Now the Kenneth Branagh Award), and been nominated for best screenwriter at the BAFTA qualifying Underwire Festival. I am writer and exec producer of a film starring Stephen Graham, which has so far won a number of prestigious festival awards, and been selected for both Oscar and BAFTA qualifying film festivals. Besides having a B.A. degree and a Masters degree in Scriptwriting, I am a fully qualified teacher/ lecturer, and currently lecturer in screen writing and creative writing at a number of establishments including Winchester University. I also have many years experience teaching second language students both in the UK and abroad. I have previously worked in the broadcasting industry for many years, working in live studio and transmissions.
I specialise in : Scriptwriting for film/ TV/ stage, generating ideas for fictional stories, 3 act structures, narrative, dialogue, prose. Writing to improve wellbeing, Second language English improvers who want to learn a creative skill as well as improve their English.
I have a PGCE in Post Compulsory Education and have taught in Further Education, Higher Education and Adult Education in **Web Address Removed**, Scriptwriting and Media for many years both in the UK and in the UAE to second language students. I currently teach at Winchester University, Metfilm school Ealing Studios, City Lit London, Oxford Restore, Bucks Adult Learning and Activate Learning, as well as private tuition. I teach many ages from primary school students to post graduate and adult learners - beginners in the subject to advanced. I also have experience of on-line tutoring and mentoring, and can deliver courses face to face or online.
I am a Mental Health First Aider (MHFA), and encourage students with issues surrounding mental health to open up to creative writing, as this can provide confidence, clarity, a way to unravel thoughts and feelings, improve self expression, and improve well being.
If you have works in progress that you want to improve, we can work bespoke tutoring around these pieces to help bring your stories and characters to life.
I take a student centred approach to teaching, and use up to date practical industry examples to illustrate points and meaning. Students will learn how to create ideas and learn how to translate them into stories, thinking critically about their subject, and therefore gaining deeper knowledge and understanding.
First and second language students are very welcome; I am highly experienced in teaching students from a variety of backgrounds, ages and cultures.
We can arrange to correspond on-line, or face to face.
