Teaching Approach:

My approach to teaching has always been a student centred one, in which the emphasis is placed on students ‘learning’ rather than teachers ‘teaching’ and I believe that a challenging and flexible approach has allowed me to prepare the majority of my students for successful entry into higher education and to meet the challenges encountered with skill and confidence. I have come to understand my role as one that attempts to enable students to develop both their thinking and critical faculties, fostering self confidence and a trust in the intuitive process, to see what is possible, through both practical experimentation and discursive interaction, a reciprocal dialogue that reflects not only on the work, but on the activity itself, and its role in a broader contemporary art and cultural context.
