Personal Description:

I am a patient, imaginative and conscientious tutor, with an enthusiasm for supporting my students to reach their full potential. I am an avid reader and writing has been my passion from a very young age. There is inspiration everywhere, and I love nurturing others on their individual creative journeys.

I work with students from age 6 to 16, offering one-to-one tuition in English/literacy, creative writing, and general study skills. Adults wishing to study creative writing, or for other areas of study, please enquire.

I also have five years’ experience of running workshops in schools, and I am able to offer tuition to for private groups.

Teaching Experience:

I am a graduate with a degree in English and Creative Writing and a Master of Arts in Humanities.

As a part of my BA final project, I wrote a manuscript for a **Contact Detail Removed**vision series. My post-graduate studies focused on literary theory, particularly ecocriticism, depth psychology and the symbiotic relationship between art (literature) and theory.

My final MA project explored the cultural influences on the distribution of power within society, as well as its representation within literature. Alongside this research, I wrote a novel and reflected upon how my exploration of literary theory had influenced my writing, as well as how my creative journey had affected my research.

After initially volunteering as a reading mentor, I quickly realized my passion for helping students to achieve academic success. As well as one-to-one tutoring, I went on to teach a number of literacy, drama and creative writing workshops within primary schools.

I am a very friendly tutor with experience in finding a way forward those who lack confidence. I have also worked with higher-ability students in need of a greater challenge.

Teaching Approach:

I believe that a love of reading and writing stories, can act as a gateway of discovery for young people, nurturing their imaginative and naturally curious minds, towards both analytical thinking and creativity. As such, I take a creative approach in the teaching of all subjects.

Where creative writing is concerned, I help my students to identify their goals and ambitions. A student may need to develop their writing to improve their result in a forthcoming exam; other students may have lively, imaginative minds, yet lack enthusiasm for English as a subject, or confidence in their abilities as writers.

Whether you are a parent looking for a way to enthuse your child with a love of reading and writing stories, or an older student, aware of a talent you wish to develop, I will nurture creativity into achievement.

I treat all my students as individuals, recognizing that I need to be adaptable to their learning styles and interests. I find this is an effective approach, sparking a passion for learning and developing enthusiastic students, with the skills they need for success. When faced with a challenge, I am always willing to research and learn, seeking new ways to support my students.

Supporting children in developing the skills (and an eager, enquiring mind-set) necessary for life-long learning, is one of my key objectives. I nurture children to become confident students, curious about the world and equipped with skills for independent study and the pursuit of creative futures.

I encourage my students to remember that learning and growing as a person is a life-long journey, and that we all make progress at different rates. Mistakes and struggles are learning opportunities.

It is also never too late to explore your creativity!
