Personal Description:
With ten years as a drama teacher and theatrical professional, I provide expertise in speech, acting and L.A.M.D.A exam preparation. Having trained at a leading British drama school, the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School, I can guide the delivery of classical and modern texts. Since graduating in 2012, I have had a fun career, performing for the BBC as well as for large scale theatres, such as the Regent's Park Open Air Theatre, Birmingham Rep, Bath Theatre Royal, Wales Millennium Centre, The Lowry, Richmond Theatre and the Arcola. I have also directed plays for Theatre West and taken on Assistant Director roles for Folio Theatre Company.
Teaching Experience:
For seven years, I have worked as a private acting coach and group class facilitator. Clients include Queen's Theatre Hornchurch, for whom I deliver the weekly KS1 and KS2 classes, A Team Arts, Amplify Theatre Classes, as well as many private students. Initially, I trained as a drama teacher with Perform. Since then, I have kept up-to-date with regular training workshops at the Queen's Theatre Hornchurch. These have included topics such as safeguarding, evaluation, class delivery and Arts Award teaching.
Throughout my years of teaching I have worked with many students who have special educational needs such as dyslexia, ADHD and autism. Having recently completed an MSc in Cognitive Neuroscience, I celebrate neurodiversity, believing everybody should be entitled to learn in their own way.
Teaching Approach:
As a teacher, I am highly organised. I like to plan thoroughly, allowing flexibility within the session; if I have ample resources up my sleeve then I can adapt to the needs of the student spontaneously. When delivering classes to children, I am keen to keep their focus by making sessions fun and clearly laying out what is to be gained from practice. Each child or adult has something unique to give to their performance and I like to draw this out, choosing material that plays to a student's strengths.
With regard to examinations, I ensure that classes address the key assessment points laid out in the marking criteria. Creating good exam habits is essential. For example, practicing the introduction to L.A.M.D.A exam speeches is as important as practicing the speeches themselves. Confidence is key to success and practice is key to confidence.
