Acting / Drama
I have been acting professionally for 12 years, working in film, television, theatre and radio. Over that time, I have been fortunate to work with a number of award-winning directors, including Tom Hooper, Ben Wheatley, and JJ Abrams, and have been cast in major roles in projects for Paramount Pictures, CBBC, and BBC Radio 2. A member of OUDS while at Oxford University, I toured the UK and Japan with the Thelma Holt Shakespeare Tour, as well as directing "West Side Story" at the Oxford Playhouse, which at the time was their biggest-selling student show to date.
For the past 3 years, I have been teaching children and young people ages 10-18, in a part-time capacity at Tring Park School for the Performing Arts, working under teachers whose previous students have included Lily James, Daisy Ridley, and Jessica Brown-Findlay.
I believe that acting is not a skill that needs to be taught but a natural activity that's second nature to most people, and that what requires discipline and practice is, as David Mamet says, "getting out of the way of one's own self". Consequently, when teaching acting, I seek to encourage students to identify how they block themselves from their imaginations, and nurture in them a spirit of play and creativity in their approach. My teaching methods draw mainly from the practitioners Keith Johnstone, David Mamet, Mike Alfreds and John Wright, and any other wisdom I have found helpful in my own acting work.
