Personal Description:

My name is Ayla, I am a 22 year old English Literature and Creative Writing student based in London. My life has certainly been out of the ordinary. I grew up being correspondence schooled by my parents, living half of the year on a yacht in the Pacific, and the other half of the year in the French Alps. My parents, who are Swedish and Irish/Polish, have always been keen travellers. Most of my childhood was spent travelling the world, exploring different cultures and learning new languages. Living in the France during the winter, I became fluent in French as well as quickly taking to snowboarding with my local club. This soon became all I wanted to do, and by the time I was 16 I had represented Team GB at the Youth Olympics, as well as at both World Cup and Europa Cup events. Unfortunately a concussion in training brought my short career to an end and I decided to put my time into something else. Being a creative individual I went on to train as an actor on the foundation course at the Oxford School of Drama. This was a great experience, which ended just as we came into the first lockdown. Since then I have been pursing a degree in english literature and creative writing, to which I am now in my second year and truly loving it. Writing has always been a particular passion of mine and something I love working on with students. When I am not studying or teaching I am often working as a nanny. I love spending time with children and sparking new interests in them for various different sports and activities (acting, music, singing and cooking).

Teaching Experience:

I have taught many students from the ages of 8-30 both in English Literature/ Language and French. A couple of my most recent students have been helping a 10 year old boy struggling with dyslexia through English coursework, and teaching French to a 30 year old starting from scratch. Both have made great progression and I hope to take on more students in the near future.

Teaching Approach:

I believe our education system is not suited to everyone, and unfortunately due to this, some students will fall behind. This is not the students fault, and in these circumstances there are always alternative routes to reach the same goals. Throughout lessons I get to know the students strengths and weaknesses, and focus on what they need help with the most. Through my own experience with homeschooling, I became a focused, independent learner, which is something I aim to pass on to all my students. I aim to keep lessons fun and engaging, whilst still working hard.
