Personal Description:

I am a practicing visual artist, community arts worker and artist educator working with and teaching across a variety of media including; painting, drawing and illustration, mixed media and collage, graphic design, digital photography and film making. I am a visual arts graduate and studied an MA in participatory and community arts at Goldsmiths College. I provide both practical and academic tutoring in a number of arts related subjects, for school, further education and higher education students as well as adult learners.

Teaching Experience:

I have worked in various community arts and educational settings for 10 years, facilitating arts teaching sessions across a wide range of ages, abilities and backgrounds. In addition to one-to-one tutoring students at their own homes, I have also taught in schools, libraries, galleries, museums, community centres, health & social care settings, charities, youth groups, refugee centres and prisons. I believe this experience has provided me with a strong grounding and flexibility in teaching techniques, enabling me to cater my methods to the specific needs of each individual student. Most recently I have been employed as an arts practitioner working with offenders and marginalised groups in and out of prison for the arts charity Stretch, and as an artist educator at three alternative education provisions for children aged 11-18 in South London. I have just completed a youth arts project with Surrey Clubs for Young People, running arts sessions at fifteen youth clubs across the county and curating an exhibition of the resulting art work at The Lightbox gallery in Woking.

Teaching Approach:

I am a friendly and relaxed arts tutor with a good sense of humour and a strong belief that learning should be fun. I like to involve my students as much as possible in their own learning, facilitating a two-way interactive process enabling the student to take ownership of their own learning plan. I like to spend the first session with my students discussing their individual needs and goals, and deciding together on the best way to structure their learning to give them the best possible chance of producing their best work. I am a patient and understanding tutor, with a real passion and enthusiasm for my subject matter and a strong desire to help my students succeed.
