-Disclaimer, I can only teach Screenwriting, and maybe Script Supervising if there is interest for it-
I am a graduate of a BA Film Degree and an MA Screenwriting degree, and I have a real passion for Film and TV- I could literally talk about its complexity for days.
I have been a Script reader for 4 years and I have learnt the dos and don'ts of creative writing for media. Despite my lack of industry experience I have a creative mind and have a good understanding how screenplays function, as well as a good understanding of the current commercial landscape.
I also work as a Script Supervisor on film sets, which is less about creativity, but I am happy to teach that to anyone that's interested in pursuing it as a career.
I have no formal teaching experience, but I have always been good at breaking something complex into easy to access bites. I truly love screenwriting and the creative process, and would fully commit myself to interesting and engaging lessons for my students.
As a Script Reader my job is to be as constructive as possible, I write reports and suggest possible solutions to creative/ structural problems. With my teaching I would be the same, it would be a safe space to explore the world of screenwriting and I would suggest possible solutions if an idea is struggling to come to life.
I believe it's important to start from the basics, to break down the core elements that make-up a screenplay. Only then can writing tasks be assigned.
I won't assign hard homework, but small tasks are important to help the student understand the point I am trying to make. My sessions will be judgement free and completely constructive, and all ideas are welcome.
My teachings won't be bias ramblings, but thoughtful ideas backed up by examples and evidence in the industry.
It's important to understand that the industry is vast and that personal taste shouldn't cloud teaching. Every genre has general rules, but even with those there's room to grow and push past what's expected.
