Personal Description:

I am currently a PhD student at the University of Toronto, specializing in environmental science. I have an excellent academic track record and I am committed to helping younger generations excel in their academics. I particularly enjoy tutoring kids in math because math is my favourite subject and I know many kids can’t say the same. Hence, I enjoy clarifying topics to them. Tutoring Experience:

I started tutoring math in January 2017, via an appointment with tutor doctor. I tutored kids ranging from Grade 4 to Grade 11. I was able to help them improve significantly in math, and got good reviews from parents. I started tutoring privately in September 2018. I have so far tutored 4 kids (Grade 4,6 and 8).

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to tutoring can be summarized in three words - basics, individuality and feedback.

When I start with a new student, the first thing I do is to test their understanding of basic math concepts, before delving into the more complicated topics. I do this because each advanced level in math is a build up on the previous level. I make sure my students properly understand the basics before introducing them to more complicated things.
Secondly, I tailor my lessons to each student. I make sure to understand the student’s strengths and weaknesses and approach the lesson based on these. I teach them multiple ways to solve a question and encourage them to pick the one they’re most comfortable with. I make sure to make myself very approachable to my students and encourage them to ask questions at anytime.
Finally, I encourage my students to provide me with feedback on my teaching methods. In addition to giving them homework and testing their time management skills - which is my way of assessing their understanding and giving them feedback, I also encourage them to let me know if they’ll prefer me to do things a certain way. I strongly believe that as my students learn from me, I also learn from them.
