Personal Description:

Hello learners! My name is Shivani and I am a certified Ontario Math, French and Business Educator (Grades 1- 12) - OCT 696157. I have been employed as a permanent high school teacher in the Peel District School Board for 5 years. I received my Bachelor of Arts in French Studies and Business, with a Minor in Mathematics from the University of Waterloo, and completed my Masters in Teaching at the University of Toronto. Teaching is my passion, and I enjoy working with students as well as adults. In my spare time, I am a freelance artist and sell my work on Etsy **Removed By Admin**

I am currently looking to take on students for ONLINE (via Google Meets) and IN PERSON lessons. I am also available to help with secondary applications and career guidance.

Tutoring Experience:

I have been teaching/tutoring for over 10 years, and am confident in teaching Grade 1 to 12, college-level, as well as first-year university Math, French (Core and Immersion) and Business. I am currently teaching Grade 11 Functions and Senior Business courses (Grade 11 and 12) such as Marketing, Entrepreneurship, and Business Technology at my school.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to tutoring is very simple. Students must be organized and take part in their own learning in order to succeed. I aim to facilitate sessions that motivate students to take responsibility for their learning, and provide examples and strategies that may help them better relate to abstract concepts. I believe that any student can succeed, with the proper tools and support. I do not believe in complete memorization, but I do believe that studying and practicing are big components to academic success.

When it comes to French in particular, I place a strong value on practicing oral communication and learning vocabulary and grammar necessary to be able to speak, read and write. I do my best to teach strategies that will help students correct misconceptions and allow them to feel comfortable making mistakes in the French language (because I make mistakes, too)!

In regards to Math, I believe that understanding the fundamentals and knowing a bit of mental math can go a long way. Students can benefits from both traditional and modern learning methods, but long-term retention relies on true understanding and practical application (and admittedly, a lot of practice)!

For business, I engage students by teaching them about key concepts and relating them to current news. My goal with business is to improve students' professional communication, creativity and risk taking skills. Helping with digital literacy and graphic design techniques is one of my favourite parts of business, as it can help engage an audience and teach students how to present their work in a creative way.
