Personal Description:
I have been an Ontario Collage of Teacher Member since 2003 when I graduated from the Faculty of Education. I have taught all grades in elementary school plus acted as an instructional coach to assist teachers with their curriculum programming for five years at the school board level. I have a Reading Specialist and writing additional qualification to help emergent readers and writers fill the gaps in their learning. Additionally, my university majors are in French and Italian language studies. I have also trained Grade 3 and 6 students to write the EQAO test for the past two decades and are therefore very familiar with the Ontario curriculum and critical thinking processes students are expected to develop.
Tutoring Experience:
I have been a teacher for 22 years including this year. I have taught various grades from Grade 3 - 8. I have also worked as a summer literacy teacher and tutor for many years assisting elementary school children become more confident with literacy and numeracy skills.
Tutoring Approach:
*Please note I am not uploading resources because it depends on the individual child and I don’t have a “one size fits all” approach.
I will first get to know the child by using diagnostic tools to establish their learning needs. Depending on the subject, this could be a reading and/or writing passage as well as foundational numeracy skills assessments. From there, I will plan a tailored approach to their instruction and gather the necessary learning materials such as books, websites, handouts, and provide minilessons on key concepts. Therefore, they will receive one-on-one assistance as well as follow-up strategies to practice their skills in between sessions.
