Personal Description:

I am a recent graduate with a Master's in Experimental Particle Physics and a Bachelor's in Chemistry and Physics. I have been a member of CERN and the ATLAS collaboration for the last four years working on novel sensor technologies for future upgrades to the LHC. In this stead I have travelled to multiple continents and collaborated with top-tier physicists and engineers from across the globe.

Throughout my studies, travel, and life – I enjoy the outdoors, a good meal, illuminating conversation, reading, writing, creating ambigrams, card and video games, hockey, golf, owning a cat… - I have come to a have a prodigious appreciation for the power, ubiquity, and inescapability of systems. I believe we all spend time naturally and implicitly exercising systems-level thinking but my interests and research have led me deep into this meta-realm. A creative and synergistic attitude towards systems has resulted from this developed fluency.

Tutoring Experience:

I have four years experience as a teaching assistant (TA) in a post-secondary physics department. The courses I taught included undergraduates in both physics and non-physics programs. My main duties were the management of lower and upper year labs as well as lower year tutorials, interacting with the students and marking. While classes had up to about 20 students per TA the lab attendees were paired and the tutorials typically saw up to a few pairs working together at a time lending the learning environment a decidedly small-group feel. I have also spent some time developing and marking problem sets for tutorials and courses. My favourite part of the TA experience was interacting with the students and the mutually rewarding feeling that comes with unlocking a new flow of knowledge and understanding. Luckily, I have also been able to find this same feeling mentoring younger students in research topics (in this regard a more one-on-one experience). I look forward to being able to do so with you too.

Tutoring Approach:

Using the beauty of analogy to link the new material to familiar concepts I will help you solidify the base of and bridge any gaps in your knowledge. We think in terms of systems and it is only out of the old that the new can evolve. Moreover nature is suited, amenable, complicit even, to this learning by analogy process offering up a paralleling, poetic reality. For instance, consider the concept of a wave as seen in arms/hands, crowds, the animal kingdom (such as snake movement), the water, earth (earthquakes), air (sound), light (full spectrum electromagnetic radiation), and even in space, time and matter themselves (general relativity and quantum mechanics). Together I feel that we will be able to find the correct perspective, the correct system of thought, which will allow a meaningful understanding and progress.
