Information About Rebecca
RebeccaPersonal Description:
I am an English graduate in Classics from the University of Warwick, I am in Canada for the year before I begin my masters at the University of Amsterdam. I have been studying Latin and Classical Greek since the age of 12, both in classroom and Independent study environments. I think that Latin is not only one of the most useful languages but also one of the most enjoyable, as it comes from such a rich cultural background.
Tutoring Experience:
During my college and university study, I ran classes for Lower years in Latin catchup, including grammer and content. I have always really enjoyed teaching, sharing passion for a subject and seeing students improve.
Tutoring Approach:
I believe that especially for such a structured language as Latin, grammer must be the foundation of a classical education. However I believe this creates a far more interesting learning style, as the language becomes far more like solving multiple and unique puzzles, than memorising dull and useless phrases. Not only do I ask my students to translate from Latin, but also into latin, as this really solidifies and understand g of the nature of the language, and helps students or organise their minds. Alongside a focus on grammer and language, I find it important to also Infuse lessons with classical content, be that history, culture or literature which is language appropriate. I think this not only makes the langaue Infanatly more understandable, but also utilises a classical language for its main benefit - as a means to unlock access and understanding to a completely different culture.
