Personal Description:

I am a second-year Engineering student at the University of Calgary. I love learning about how things work and love what I am studying.
I grew up in Calgary, Alberta, and love living here. Being close to the mountains and Banff National Park is truly a blessing as I love to spend time outdoors.

After high school, I spend time studying for a bachelor in business at Mount Royal University. Later on, I found that I had a desire to work with my hands and wanted to start learning about cars, this led to my decision to complete a diploma program in automotive Technology at SAIT College. I worked as an Automotive Tech for a few years before wanting to develop my learning further which lead to my decision to pursue an Engineering Degree with a focus on electrical engineering.

Tutoring Experience:

During my studies, I have been required to do a heavy load of mathematics in each of my courses, aside from the math-specific courses that are required.

Having excelled in my math related courses through university, I have been able to tutor peers at the first-year engineering level with theory from Math31 through introductory engineering calculus courses(M****Contact Detail Removed**phone Number Removed** ; this has helped these students continue on with their education after struggling with certain concepts for much time.

Tutoring Approach:

I have a hard time being satisfied in learning without ultimately developing a complete knowledge on the subject, I always have a desire to know why things are the way they are instead of simply memorizing formulas and processes.

In order for me to reach this desired level of understanding, there is a lot I have to understand about myself: my base-line understanding of a subject, how motivated I am to learn about the subject, and the application of what I am learning in the "real world" are all things that help me in developing a full understanding.

I believe this is a great approach whilst tutoring, first finding out what my student knows, doesn't know, what their strengths and weaknesses are, and how much they are willing to work to understand all help me decide how much time should be spent understanding the "whys" of theory, the number of practice problems needed to create successful habits, and how much time should be spent nurturing a love for mathematics that will open up a students capacity for future learning. I understand that not every student carries the same love for math that I do!
