Personal Description:

I am a second-year linguistics student at Carleton University and I have a passion for all language-learning, particularly English. All my life I've had a great love of reading and literature studies, and I excelled in that area in secondary school. I enjoy writing and editing and have significant experience in academic research. I am also fluent in French and have obtained my DELF at the B2 level. I can help prospective clients in any of the following areas: English grammar and overall language, English literature, essay/paper writing, French language & literature, study strategies, etc.

Tutoring Experience:

I do not have previous tutoring experience, but I have witnessed firsthand what a great tutor can do to boost a student's confidence in a subject they struggle with. I truly do accredit my passing of high school physics and math to my tutor!

Tutoring Approach:

I firmly believe that every student is unique in their learning styles, and I am fully prepared to adapt my approach based on the student's needs. I believing in obtaining a thorough assessment and understanding of a student's skills in the relevant subject matter, as well as their learning style, then developing a clear path of action to improve them. I like to focus heavily on practice and diverse applications of the material, as I believe this helps with retention and comprehension. I also try to determine which aspects of the subject the student is most interested in and focus on that in order to make our sessions more engaging and worthwhile. With regards to French, I strongly emphasize oral practice as well as enjoyable methods of learning grammar. If the student should need help with writing, I suggest very short weekly writing assignments targeting the specific skill(s) that need improvement, then reviewing them together. Overall, I encourage collaboration between myself and the student to support them in their academic success.
