Personal Description:

Hello, my name is Kyla. After completing my undergraduate and Master's degree from the University of Toronto, I started my career as a non-profit consultant in Central and South America. Recently, I have started my own consulting firm and also publish a blog on sustainable tourism. In my free time I love to dance, read, and practice Spanish. I also spend my free time writing non-fiction and research articles for various journalistic and news sources.

Tutoring Experience:

As a graduate student at the University of Toronto, I worked as a lecturer and teaching assistant for the School of Geography and Planning, City Studies, and the Department of History. During this time period, I taught over 250 undergraduates students. My responsibilities included curriculum development, essay and presentation marking, examination prep, as well as leading workshops on research and writing. In addition, I have also been an ESL teacher for various non-profits in Canada and abroad. My students were at various levels and age ranges- from beginner to advanced.

Tutoring Approach:

A great teacher can turn a student into a lifelong learner, which focuses on the ongoing, voluntary, and self motivated pursuit of knowledge. My tutoring sessions often follow the presentation-practice-production teaching method. This three stage method allows the teacher to present an idea in a situation or context, has the student practice the idea in a controlled exercise, and then have the student implement the idea through task- based learning. Creating a fun, dynamic, and positive learning environment is essential to each of my classes.
