Personal Description:

Hi! My name is Kate and I'm a recent graduate of the University of Windsor. Though I plan to become a child psychologist, I also love teaching and would love to be able to use my knowledge help kids excel in science! Science is a subject I am very passionate about, particularly biology. My hope is that gaining a better understanding will allow kids to develop a love for science as I did when I was younger.

Tutoring Experience:

I currently tutor math through Mathnasium of Tecumseh, so I have had experience teaching children from grades K-12. I have also worked with kids through many volunteer experiences including John McGivney Children's Centre's summer camp and scribing for EQAO at St. John the Baptis**Contact Detail Removed**mentary School. I am also currently tutoring one grade 6 student and one grade 7 student online via zoom.

Tutoring Approach:

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, I have been conducting my tutoring online through zoom. I use an online whiteboard to interact with the students (this allows them to write/draw if they need to) and illustrate concepts. I like to teach using auditory as well as visual explanations, which usually includes diagrams. For many biology related concepts, metaphors can be very helpful in order to help kids relate science to things that they already understand. I like to use questions throughout my sessions to determine whether the student is able to grasp the concept or if more time on the subject is required. As well, I sometimes like to assign short worksheets in between sessions to verify that the student is able to apply the concepts independently and to help them retain the knowledge.
