Personal Description:
I am greatly inspired by Mahatma Gandhi’s quote – “Be the change that you wish to see in the world.” I aspire to make this world a better place. To me, life is about growing, changing and excelling towards the pursuit of evolution. Introspection and reflection help me stay focused. Another tenet of my philosophy is my sense of spirituality. I believe that there exists a divine power that guides us towards the road to freedom and peace. I am on my path of discovery and each day is a new chapter in the book of my life.
Tutoring Experience:
I am an educator with over 4 years of experience. I have worked as a tutor, a classroom teacher, and an editor. My professional background includes teaching subjects such as English and Journalism. As the chief editor of the annual school magazine of The Heritage School, I played a multifaceted role of a mentor, and a curator to develop, edit and structure content. I firmly believe that education plays a pivotal role in empowering the minds of students. From time to time, I evaluate and measure the impact of my work, particularly in terms of the difference made in the lives of my students. This helps me in not only assessing my own progress but also creating sustainable practices for the holistic development of the students.
I have a Master's degree in English. I also have a Postgraduation diploma in Journalism and a Bachelor's degree in Education. I have completed several professional development workshops over
the years including those related to the study habits of students, socio-emotional learning (SEL) and strategic planning.
Tutoring Approach:
My style of teaching blends the interests of my students’ needs with curriculum-appropriate methods. I engage students by being interactive, conducting brainstorming sessions and focusing on experiential learning. I believe that every individual deserves to be valued and recognized for who he/she is. My pleasant disposition and effective communication skills have helped me in building a positive rapport with colleagues, students, and parents.
I can recount numerous rewarding experiences of being a teacher. One incident that stands out, in particular, was the use of Circle Time to emphasize the importance of Inclusion. I vividly remember that during one of my classes, a smart kid insulted a SEN (special education needs) student, as the SEN kid was not able to catch up with the group task. I conducted a Circle Time session to address the issue of Inclusion. I was successful in making the students realize that they must acknowledge and appreciate each other's skills and talents. The students helped each other not just in academics but also in co-curricular activities.
I know for sure that actions have a ripple effect, and the overall impact of my actions will be instrumental in inspiring my students to work for the betterment of the community.
