Information About Jonathan
Carlyle tutorPersonal Description:
I am currently employed as a librarian in Saskatchewan which allows me to increase the areas of knowledge I can share with those who are learning english as a second language. I am an avid cyclist who loves to draw and read. I have competed in several duathlons (cycling, running races) with hopes of more to come.
Tutoring Experience:
I have tutored ESL students for over ten years. My students have varied in age and profession, everyone whom I have taught, be it a doctors or children in public school, has enjoyed the experience and have said that they would recommend my services to everyone they know.
Tutoring Approach:
I believe that english can be learned best when spoken naturally. So I often will speak as I would to other Canadians so that the student gets a feel for the natural rhythms that English can hold. If there a areas of concern, ie difficult words or phrases, I will break those down into manageable sections till the student feels confident enough to move on. I believe that probing questions about the students life , profession and background can be sufficient to start a tutoring relationship. As these details are brought forth I will access the students unspoken needs and add those to the goals that are already being worked on. Through both formal and informal assessments the students progress will be marked and relayed back lesson by lesson. Areas of growth and concern will be noted and the student and teacher will come to an agreement as to what areas need to be worked on.
