Information About Jacqueline

Laval tutor

Personal Description:

I'm currently studying Teaching English as a Second Language. I have a college background in game design which means I know how to make learning fun and I like to have a creative approach to teaching English concepts to make them easier for everyone to digest. I love reading, writing and I am very patient and organized in my work. I hope to one day get my master's and doctorate so I can continue teaching at the college and university level. I'm very passionate about the English language and would love to share that passion with others.

Tutoring Experience:

I did once a week in-school French tutoring from 2015-2017. The remainder of my teaching experience comes from my current teaching program in university and internships that I will be doing at adult community learning centers and elementary/high schools throughout my program.

Tutoring Approach:

I like to give students concrete, easy to understand real-world examples that they can apply in everyday life. I also like to make learning more fun by making up grammar and vocabulary games that establish a goal-reward system to make learning more gratifying. I think giving tutees as much freedom as possible so they don't feel as if they're being driven along the learning process. Doing things yourself feels better than having others force it upon you! Creative exercises are a big part of my teaching process as these can combine the logic of language with its artistic capabilities. Sometimes I might use drawing as a learning tool if the tutee is more visual. I prioritize having previous information on the tutee's struggles and strengths so that I can tailor my approach to them as individuals.
