Personal Description:

Bonjour, Hi! I am a multi-lingual student in Engineering and Philosophy at McGill. Among my formal tutoring experience, I have tutored for 2 years this range of subjects: English, French, Math, Physics. Informally, I have been tutoring for more than 15 years: more specifically, I tutored my youngest brother from the age of 4 onwards and made him able to learn higher level electronics (high school level physics) at the age of 11. He is now at the level of 15-16 year olds, at the age of 10. On the other end, I have also worked with students with learning disabilities and immigrants wanting to learn a new language.

Tutoring Experience:

I have tutored students from ages 4-18 years old, during the past 6 years. My students had varying academic strengths and I personalized my approach to each student's needs. As such, I worked with highly intelligent students who needed extra support and students who had serious academic issues with particular subjects. From experience, math seemed to be the least understood chapters. Hence, I developed my own way of teaching it, favouring understanding and the ability to visualize what you are doing. I have also taken university-level courses in math cognition. Other subjects I tutored include: physics, chemistry, biology, computer science, English and French.

Tutoring Approach:

My first lesson would be spent gauging the strength of the student and setting up a plan on how to proceed. My philosophy is that a student needs to develop independence in his/her study, so I will work closely with the students or parents to have the student take initiative where possible. If possible, I will also involve the parents in the process of tutoring the student since they undeniably spend more time with the student than I do and will be able to follow up with him/her during non-tutoring hours.

For students who require more one-to-one attention, I will work with the parents to create a personalized time plan for the student. I will recommend a certain amount of tutoring hours but it will be at the parents' discretion. If need be, I can do more of video tutoring than face-to-face tutoring.
