Information About Gesseca
Toronto tutorPersonal Description:
I have studied biology for many years. I have an undergraduate degree in Ecology, and a Masters and Ph.D. in population genetics and molecular evolution. My specialties are ecology, genetics, evolutionary biology, and plant biology. I also have a lot of experience with statistics, especially as it relates to biology at the undergraduate and graduate school levels.
I spent six years after my Ph.D. working in the medical research field in cancer genetics and bioinformatics. I worked as a postdoctoral fellow and scientific researcher in world-class medical research institutes, including the Lunenfeld-Tanenbaum Research Institute at Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto, and the Peter Gilgan Center for Research and Learning at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto.
Tutoring Experience:
I was a teaching assistant for seven years during graduate school at York University in Toronto. I lead laboratory sections and helped students perform experiments and learn course material. I loved working with students and sharing my knowledge with them.
Tutoring Approach:
I am patient and kind to my students. I try to identify where the gaps in their knowledge are, and what is preventing them from understanding the material. My teaching philosophy involves breaking down material into smaller and smaller pieces, until it is manageable for the student, no matter what level they are studying at.
Many students find their ability is much greater than they believed, when they are finally not overwhelmed by the material or overcome by stress and anxiety.
