Personal Description:

Hello! I'm a 32 year old woman from Texas, recently relocated to my husband's hometown in Canada. I hold a bachelors degree in Classics (Greek and Latin) and Great Texts from Baylor University and a masters degree in Classics from the University of Kansas. I also have a TESOL diploma with specializations in teaching business English and IELTS. I have over 10 years of teaching experience with native and non-native English speaking students aged 6-60 in settings ranging from online education to classrooms to cafes in the US, Canada, Korea and Russia.

Tutoring Experience:

I taught Greek and Roman mythology and humanities courses to undergraduates at the University of Kansas. I lived in Korea for 7 years and during that time taught ESL to children, adults and college students privately and in elementary school and university classrooms. For the past 6 months I have taught online English classes via Skype, helping Russian students prepare for the IELTS exam by focusing on writing clarity and cohesion and Korean adults work on their English fluency.

Tutoring Approach:

I think teaching is mostly about flexibility, adaptability, listening and knowing your audience. I like to learn as much as possible about my students and their learning goals when creating a plan to help them get the most out of their classes. In my experience, it's clear that you learn the most in a relaxed, enjoyable, and fun setting, so I do my best to foster this kind of atmosphere with my students.
