Personal Description:

Hi! My name is Emily and I am an Ontario Certified Teacher. I am currently working for the Durham District School Board, but I like to spend my free time continuing to help students learn! I have experience teaching Elementary, Secondary and Adult students.
My specialization is in History, Native Studies, and Social Sciences. But, I have much experience teaching a variety of other subjects as well.

I am a professional and positive individual. I believe in the power of learning and working towards your goals. My favourite part about teaching is seeing my students succeed and achieve their dreams!

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to tutoring is fueled by the belief that not every child learns the same. My goal as an educator is to find which learning methods work for each student, and to use those methods to not only increase their skills and knowledge, but to also increase their confidence.

I like to get to know my student's likes and dislikes, interests, and cultural backgrounds. I believe that students do not learn well from people who they do not like or trust, and I work hard to form a professional learning relationship with my students.

I usually teach 2 to 3 students at at time, but if I believe that a student needs to learn in a one on one situation, then I will work with parents to provide that service at a time that works for them.

I always make sure to focus on curriculum documents and expectations, but I also try to ensure that students feel prepared to go beyond the curriculum expectations in terms of their skills.

I usually tutor at a library local to me - **Removed By Admin**. I find that this is a useful place to work as it offers a lot of resources that a student might want to access.
