Information About Diana
Calgary tutorPersonal Description:
Hello, my name is Diana, I am a third-year Aerospace Engineering major at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, in Florida. I enjoy any topics ranging from space, sciences, math, to computer science. Aside from school related topics, I am interested in running, hiking, soccer, WW2 history, among other things.
Tutoring Experience:
At Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, I serve as a Chemistry Tutor in the Academic Advancement Center, where I support students in one-on-one and small group settings. I help learners build a strong foundation in chemistry by guiding them through topics such as chemical reactions, molecular structure, stoichiometry, and lab techniques. In addition to clarifying lecture concepts, I assist with lab reports and coursework, helping students develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills in both theoretical and practical contexts.
Previously, I worked as a Bike Instructor in a seasonal summer role, teaching children aged 2 to 12 how to ride bikes and develop new cycling skills. I emphasized safety and confidence-building while adapting instruction to suit individual developmental needs. I maintained regular communication with parents and provided weekly progress reports to assess and track each child’s improvement over the course of the program.
Tutoring Approach:
Over time, I’ve grown more confident in my ability to interact with students and provide a tutoring experience that’s responsive to their individual needs and learning styles. I’ve learned to adapt my approach depending on how each student learns best, whether that means explaining concepts verbally, using analogies, or incorporating visual aids.
One approach I’ve adopted more frequently is using the whiteboard tables during sessions when in person, or sharing a screen notepad online where the tutee can see what I am explaining be represented in some way physically through visuals. Even for students who aren't primarily visual learners, relevant visuals often enhance understanding and allow us to revisit earlier concepts during the session. This method has helped me tie ideas together more clearly and effectively. My own academic success using whiteboards and written notes for independent study inspired this change, and I’ve seen it benefit my students in similar ways.
