Personal Description:

Hi! I understand that you're looking for a tutor. I am a friendly and dedicated individual who loves teaching by engaging students in inquiry-based learning. I am an award-winning TA who has experience tutoring both secondary and post-secondary students. I also have a Masters degree in English and I am currently a doctoral candidate in English.

I am enthusiastic about the material I teach and I am thrilled when students achieve their academic goals. I help students realize their academic goals by helping them develop study skills and understand content as well become resilient in their learning. My experience teaching at the post-secondary level means that I am adept at teaching students the research and writing skills they need to succeed in competitive academic settings.

Tutoring Experience:

I have extensive experience tutoring and teaching students who have diverse needs, abilities, and interests. I have over five years of experience tutoring students who are in secondary school. I have six years of experience teaching college and university students at the post-secondary level who come from different disciplinary backgrounds.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to tutoring is inquiry-based and emphasizes learning as a continuous process. I orient sessions around specific assignments (whether it be school assignments or writing prompts) and use these assignments to help students hone their skills in critical analysis, writing, and reading. I build student confidence by fostering a productive and positive dialogue with students about their work and thought processes. I also help students develop and practice study habits such as time management, reviewing for tests, and prioritizing assignments. In teaching students study habits I introduce them to the relationship between process and product as well as transferrable skills.
