Personal Description:
Hey, I'm David. I strive to motivate students to reach their full potential while continuing to enjoy their practice. As a teacher I work on all aspects of their musicianship; scale practice, sight-reading, ear training, repertoire, and improvisation are some of the main areas I focus on. Besides Classical piano, I teach classes in Jazz piano and Improv piano if that is where the interest of the student lies.
Tutoring Experience:
I have taught a variety of age groups and skill levels and have taken pedagogy courses at York University to better myself in my pedagogical practice. I am constantly researching better ways of presenting information to help my students advance. I was a swimming coach and instructor for five years, and this has helped me greatly in my perpetual journey to becoming a better teacher.
Tutoring Approach:
My main focus when teaching any student is making sure they are enjoying the information they are learning. I make games with dull material to make it more enjoyable and I'm patient when it comes to explaining difficult concepts. I know that every student learns at a different rate and each student has several unique strengths and weaknesses. I find joy in discovering new ways to convey information to fit my students particular needs.
