Personal Description:

I am available to tutor for Spanish (+ university levels), English (+ grade 9), and Math (+ grade 8).

I have my Master’s degree in Spanish and am currently a second-year MT student at the University of Toronto. I currently also hold my Ontario Professional Interpreting Certification.

Tutoring Experience:

Tutoring Approach:

My tutoring approach is holistic, depending wholeheartedly on my student's needs and their learning style. I facilitate student independence by teaching them study skills and encouraging them to actively practice them in my presence. I believe students should be praised based on their effort and thought processes, and NOT on their ability to answer a question correctly. Thus, there will be lots of "thinking aloud" on behalf of the student in my sessions as students develop a positive learner identity.

For Spanish:
If students are looking to better their communicative skills or even learn the language from the beginning, I will modify the length and level of difficulty of the input they receive to help them acquire the language at their pace.

I will recycle language and content for students as well as slowly add new words / concepts for them to acquire in their own speech.

As for grammar, I assist by teaching explicit rules to upper level students as well as through modeling rules for lower level students. The higher the language level, the more they are able to grasp the rules of linguistics. However, in the case of university students where they may be forced to learn the rules at the same time as acquisition, I will help them do both at the same time.
